The Church of Saint Joan of Arc, a modern Catholic church in central Rouen, northern France, stands on the Place du Vieux-Marché where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in 1431. Designed by Louis Arretche, who was commissioned in 1969, it was completed in 1979. Its sweeping curves are meant to evoke both the flames that consumed her and an overturned longship, a form echoing early Christian churches. A small garden, Le Bûcher, outside to the north marks the exact spot of the pyre. It is a monument historique inscrit.
