Jerusalem, Palestine

Demolished or destroyed.
The Church of Saint Mary of the Germans is a ruined Romanesque Catholic church and former hospice in the Old City of Jerusalem, on the northeast slope of Mount Zion. A German pilgrim and his wife founded a hospice there in 1126 for pilgrims from the Holy Roman Empire. Partly destroyed in 1187 and rebuilt in 1229, it was left in ruins after the capture of Jerusalem in 1244. The remains were discovered in 1872 and are now partly open as a public archaeological park.
