The Church of the Gesù stands in Piazza del Gesù in Rome's Pigna rione and is the mother church of the Society of Jesus. Begun in 1568 and credited to Giacomo Barozzi da Vignola, Giacomo della Porta and Michelangelo, it is built in Jesuit, Renaissance, Mannerist and baroque styles. Its façade, described as the first truly baroque façade, became a model for Jesuit churches across Central Europe and Portuguese colonies.
