The Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands in O'Connor, Nebraska, as part of a rural church complex established by the Irish Catholic Colonization Association. The land was purchased in 1879 to resettle Irish-American families from eastern cities to farms in the Great Plains. The main church building, completed in 1904–05 and designed by architect James H. Craddock, is a striking brick structure rendered in Romanesque Revival style with soaring proportions. The complex also includes a rectory (1929–30) and parish hall (1954–55), together occupying 109.7 acres. The entire property was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, recognizing its significance as both an architectural and social landmark of Irish Catholic settlement in the Midwest.
