Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and established in 1915 near Fricourt in the Somme region of France, the Citadel New Military Cemetery is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission–maintained burial ground commemorating British and Commonwealth soldiers of the First World War. The cemetery holds primarily burials made by field ambulances in the period before the Battle of the Somme, though it continued to receive interments from certain units during the war's final months. It remains under the care of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
