Congregation Shearith Israel, often called the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, is an Orthodox Jewish synagogue at 2 West 70th Street on Central Park West in Manhattan's Upper West Side. Founded in 1654 in New Amsterdam by Jews who had arrived from Dutch Brazil, it is the oldest Jewish congregation in the United States. The congregation, which follows the Sephardic rite, has occupied its Neoclassical building since 1897.
