The Corregidor Island lighthouse, on Corregidor Island in Cavite, Philippines, was established in 1853 to guide ships to the entrance of Manila Bay on their way to Manila, then the country's most important trading centre. Its position was the point where approach routes from the China Sea converged, and it stood 18 metres tall.
