The Cortile del Belvedere is a High Renaissance courtyard in Vatican City, designed by Donato Bramante from 1505 onward. Conceived as a single enclosed space, it linked the Vatican Palace with the Villa Belvedere through a series of terraces joined by stairs, flanked by narrow wings. Bramante did not live to see it finished, and before the end of the sixteenth century a building across the court had divided it into two separate courtyards.
