The Cox Building is a Richardsonian Romanesque commercial structure completed in 1887 in Maysville, Kentucky, erected by brothers George L. and William Hopkinson Cox at the corner of Third and Market Streets. Originally designed with three large ground-floor storefronts and associated second-story storerooms, the building featured professional office space on the second floor—later converted to apartments—while its upper three stories were explicitly built to house a Masonic Temple for the York Rite "Knights Templar." The construction project also included seven contiguous brick residences along Market Street. The city acquired the building in 2006 for restoration; after a devastating fire destroyed the roof and upper floors in 2010, restoration work concluded with a dedication in September 2012.
