Crawford Market, officially the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai, is a market hall in South Mumbai, India, completed in 1869 in an eclectic style with Gothic Revival elements, designed by William Emerson. Donated to the city by Cowasji Jehangir, it was first named after Arthur Crawford, the first Municipal Commissioner, and later renamed to honour the social reformer Mahatma Jotirao Phule. In 1882 it became the first building in India to be lit by electricity.
