The Dancing House, a deconstructivist office building on Prague's Rašín Embankment, was designed by Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić and Canadian-American Frank Gehry and completed in 1996. Built on a vacant riverfront plot in the New Town district, the structure's undulating, asymmetrical form inspired its popular nickname—Gehry initially called it "Ginger and Fred" after the celebrated dance partners, though he later abandoned the moniker, fearing it imported "American Hollywood kitsch to Prague." Today the name is chiefly associated with the restaurant on the building's seventh floor. Construction by BESIX took four years from the design phase in 1992 to its completion.
