Dar al-Makhzen, also called the Royal Palace, is the primary official residence of the king of Morocco in Rabat, dating from 1864. It stands in the commune of Touarga, within a district enclosed by historic walls that separate it from the rest of the city. The palace is fronted by a mechouar, a public square or parade ground, surrounded by gardens, the Ahl Fas Mosque, and various residences and official buildings.
