Built in 1882 in West Jerusalem, the Debre Gannet Church (formally known as Kidane Mehret, meaning "Covenant of Mercy") is a Byzantine Revival structure that forms part of the Debre Genet monastery, whose name translates to "Monastery of Paradise." Belonging to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, it stands as one of two Ethiopian monastic communities in Jerusalem, distinguished from its counterpart Deir Sultan by its location in the western part of the city rather than the Old City. The church embodies the architectural aesthetic of its era while serving as a significant religious center for the Ethiopian Christian community in the Holy Land.
