Denbigh Castle and its town walls stand in Denbigh, Wales, built after Edward I's conquest of Wales in 1282 to control the lordship. The lands were granted to Henry de Lacy, Earl of Lincoln, who began a walled town settled by English immigrants, protected by a substantial castle. Dominated by a triangle of three octagonal towers forming its main entrance, the castle was slighted by General George Monk after 1659. It is now a National Monument of Wales and a Grade I listed scheduled monument.
