The Ducal Castle in Szczecin, Poland, is a Renaissance fortress that served as the seat of the Dukes of Pomerania-Stettin from its origins in the mid-fourteenth century through the seventeenth. Built in Gothic and Pomeranian mannerist styles, the castle began as a ducal housing complex initiated by Duke Barnim III in 1346 and was expanded under Casimir V by 1428 into its current fortified form. Positioned on Castle Hill in the Old Town neighbourhood near the Oder river, it stands as one of the largest cultural centres in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship and remains an important immovable monument of Polish architectural heritage.
