The Ducal Rotunda of the Virgin Mary and St Catherine stands in Znojmo, Czech Republic, as a Romanesque chapel built in the mid-11th century, originally serving as a castle chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The rotunda is renowned for housing one of the oldest fresco compositions in the Czech lands, commissioned by Konrad II of Znojmo around 1134 to commemorate his wedding to Mary, daughter of Serbian ruler Uroš I. The frescoes showcase not only religious themes but also dynastic propaganda, depicting members of the ruling Přemyslid family—including the legendary founder Přemysl the Ploughman and Vratislaus I, the first King of Bohemia—alongside the donor couple. The monument remains Znojmo's most valued architectural treasure and is protected as a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
