Duffield Castle, a scheduled monument in Duffield, Derbyshire, was a Norman castle built on a rocky promontory overlooking the river, a position that made it easy to defend. Anglo-Saxon remains, possibly linked to a thane named Siward, and Romano-British pottery and roof tiles have been found there, though many of the artefacts have since disappeared.
