Dunnottar Castle is a ruined medieval fortress on a rocky headland on Scotland's northeast coast, about 2 miles south of Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire. Its surviving buildings are largely of the 15th and 16th centuries, though the site is believed to have been fortified in the Early Middle Ages. It is best known as the hiding place of the Honours of Scotland from Oliver Cromwell's army in the 17th century. Steep cliffs drop to the North Sea, and the castle is a scheduled monument open to the public.
