Dunvegan Castle stands about a mile north of Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye, off Scotland's west coast, on an elevated rock overlooking an inlet on the eastern shore of Loch Dunvegan. It is the seat of the MacLeod of MacLeod, chief of Clan MacLeod. First built in the 13th century on a site probably fortified from earliest times, it was developed piecemeal over the centuries and remodelled in a mock-medieval style in the 19th century.
