Built between 1930 and 1931 at 925 First Avenue in Monte Vista, Colorado, the El Monte Hotel is a Pueblo Revival structure designed by architect E. Floyd Redding and constructed by Dutton-Kendall contractors. The hotel's creation was unusual for its time: conceived as a community need, it was funded through public subscription when Monte Vista residents formed a committee and sold $100 shares to raise capital alongside a bank mortgage. Originally budgeted at $112,000, the project succeeded in garnering sufficient funds to proceed. Now operating as the Monte Villa Inn, the building was recognized for its architectural significance and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
