Esquelbecq Military Cemetery, located in the Nord department of northern France, was established in 1918 and is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The cemetery was designed by renowned architect Edwin Lutyens, whose austere and dignified style became synonymous with Commonwealth war memorials and cemeteries following the First World War. Like other cemeteries of the period under Lutyens's direction, it reflects the architect's philosophy of creating solemn, ordered landscapes that honored the fallen while providing spaces for remembrance and reflection.
