The Faisal Mosque is the national mosque of Pakistan, set on the foothills of the Margalla Hills in Islamabad. Designed by Turkish architect Vedat Dalokay and completed in 1986, it has no conventional dome; its eight-sided concrete shell roofs are shaped like a Bedouin tent, and four 90-metre minarets surround it. Named after King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, whose $28 million grant funded construction, it was the largest mosque in the world until 1993.
