Faneuil Hall is a historic assembly hall, market hall and event venue in Downtown Boston, Massachusetts, combining Georgian and Federal architecture. Designed by John Smibert as a marketplace and meeting hall, it opened in 1742 and is known as the "Cradle of Liberty" for the many speeches and debates held there. Charles Bulfinch remodeled and expanded it in 1806, and it is a National Historic Landmark.
