Located at 1001 Fannin in downtown Houston, this 662-foot, 49-story skyscraper completed in 1981 exemplifies late-modernist architecture. Designed by the architectural firm Morris-Aubry and constructed by W. S. Bellows Construction Corporation, the tower contains approximately 1.28 million square feet of Class A office space. The building's most distinctive feature is its pair of angular "notches" cut into the north and south facades, designed to evoke the letter "F" in homage to First City National Bank, the structure's original developer and primary tenant. Clad in aluminum and green-tinted glass, the tower is rotated diagonally away from Houston's grid, creating an illusion of greater footprint than it actually occupies. Originally housing First City National Bank headquarters, the building subsequently served as global headquarters for Waste Management, Inc. and the law firm Vinson & Elkins before becoming Chord Energy's global headquarters. Now ranking as Houston's 14th-tallest building, it also houses the U.S. headquarters of Campus Living Villages.
