The Florence Baptistery, also called the Baptistery of Saint John, is an octagonal religious building in Florence, Italy, standing between Florence Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace. Dedicated to the city's patron saint, John the Baptist, it is a Romanesque building dated to 1059 and forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its design takes inspiration from the ancient Pantheon, yet scholar Walter Paatz judged its overall effect to have no parallels at all.
