Fort McIntosh is a former U.S. Army post in Laredo, Webb County, Texas, established in 1849 by the 1st U.S. Infantry to guard a strategic river crossing on the Texas frontier. Renamed in 1850 for Lieutenant Colonel James Simmons McIntosh, a hero of the Battle of Molino del Rey, it housed African-American cavalry units, including the 10th Cavalry, the "Buffalo Soldiers," in the late 19th century. Deactivated in 1946, the fort's land is now part of the Laredo Community College campus, and the site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
