The Fort Washington Avenue Armory stands at 216 Fort Washington Avenue, between West 168th and 169th Streets, in Manhattan's Washington Heights neighborhood. Built as one of the first New York City armories in the Neoclassical style rather than the Gothic Revival mode favored in the 19th century, it is a brick building with Romanesque Revival elements such as its entrance arch. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, it now houses a 5,000-seat arena and a track on which more records have been set than at any other facility in the world.
