Franklin National Bank was based in Franklin Square on Long Island, New York, and was once the country's 20th-largest bank. Its building, dating from 1926, combined Colonial Revival and modern architecture and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building was demolished in 1974, the year the bank collapsed on October 8 amid obscure circumstances involving financier Michele Sindona. That failure was then the largest bank collapse in American history.
