The Fraumünster is a Gothic Protestant church in Zurich, Switzerland, built on the remains of a former abbey for aristocratic women. Louis the German founded the Benedictine convent in 853 for his daughter Hildegard and endowed it with lands in Zurich, Uri, and the Albis forest, placing it under his direct authority. Today it belongs to the Evangelical Reformed Church of the canton of Zurich and is one of the city's four main churches. It holds class A status as Swiss cultural property of national significance.
