Fuchu Atagoyama Kofun is a zenpō-kōen-fun, a keyhole-shaped burial mound that represents one of Japan's distinctive funerary monuments. Located in Fuchu, this kofun exemplifies the architectural form characteristic of ancient Japanese tomb construction, featuring the recognizable paired mounds—a circular section adjoining a rectangular one—that define the zenpō-kōen-fun type. Such monuments served as monumental expressions of power and prestige in protohistoric Japan, constructed during the kofun period when elite burial practices incorporated elaborate earthwork designs visible at a grand scale from above.
