Located in Lake City, Iowa, the Gen. Cass and Belle Smith House is a 2½-story brick dwelling built in 1901 in the Queen Anne style. Designed by architect Flagel of Racine, Wisconsin, the asymmetrical, cross-gable structure features a prominent porch on its southeast corner, a beltcourse of rough brick between the first and second floors, and a bracketed cornice at the roofline. Built for local businessman G.C. Smith and his wife Lottie Belle Huff, the house was purchased by attorney and politician John W. Jacobs and his wife Bertha in 1913, and remained in their family through the mid-1960s. The house's high degree of architectural integrity earned it a place on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
