The Giralda is a brick steeple in Seville, Spain, serving as the bell tower of Seville Cathedral. Begun in 1198 as the minaret of the Great Mosque of Seville under the Almohad dynasty, it was later crowned with a Renaissance-style belfry after the Muslims were expelled from the area. Rising 104 metres, it is one of the most refined examples of Almohad architecture and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site that includes the cathedral.
