Goodrich Castle is a ruined medieval castle north of the village of Goodrich in Herefordshire, England, controlling the route between Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye. Probably begun by Godric of Mappestone after the Norman Conquest, it was rebuilt in stone in the mid-12th century and expanded in the late 13th century into a concentric design combining living quarters with extensive defences. Besieged in 1646 by Colonel John Birch with the help of the "Roaring Meg" mortar, it was slighted and left in ruin. Now owned by English Heritage, it is open to the public.
