The Görlitz Department Store in Saxony stands as one of Germany's best-preserved early twentieth-century department stores, built in 1912 in the elegant Art Nouveau style. Operating continuously as a department store until 2009, the building subsequently faced challenges that prompted local efforts at revitalization. By 2013, a private investor committed to restoring it as a universal department store modeled on the Department Store of Upper Lusatia, drawing inspiration from prestigious counterparts like Berlin's Kaufhaus des Westens. Now recognized as a heritage monument in Saxony, the structure represents a significant example of commercial Art Nouveau architecture from the Belle Époque era.
