Demolished or destroyed.
The Great Mosque of Gaza, also called the Great Omari Mosque, stands in Gaza City and was the largest and oldest mosque in the Gaza Strip before its partial destruction in 2023. Believed to occupy the site of an ancient Philistine temple, it was later a Byzantine church, then a Crusader church, and was rebuilt as a mosque by the Mamluks in the early 13th century. Built of kurkar, it combines Mamluk, Islamic, and Norman architectural elements.
