The Grillo-Theater is a theatre in Essen, Germany, named after the industrialist Friedrich Grillo, whose support made it possible. Designed by Heinrich Seeling, it opened on 16 September 1892 with Lessing's *Minna von Barnhelm*. Badly damaged in World War II, it reopened in 1950 with a much simpler façade. After the Aalto Theatre took over as Essen's main stage in 1988, a reconstruction by Werner Ruhnau reduced the auditorium from 670 to 400 seats, and it reopened in 1990 as a flexible smaller venue.
