The Gur-e Amir is a brick mausoleum in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, built in 1404 in the Timurid style of Islamic architecture and standing about 30 metres high. It is the tomb of the Turco-Mongol conqueror Timur (Tamerlane). It is regarded as a precursor to, and influence on, later Mughal tombs, including the Bagh-e-Babur in Kabul, Humayun's Tomb in Delhi and the Taj Mahal in Agra. The mausoleum has been heavily restored over the course of its existence.
