Halton Castle stands on Halton Hill, a sandstone prominence overlooking the village of Halton in Runcorn, Cheshire, England. Begun as a motte-and-bailey castle in 1071, it was replaced by a sandstone castle in the 13th century and was once the seat of the Barons of Halton. The castle now lies in ruins, apart from its 18th-century courthouse, which has been converted into a public house. It is a Grade I listed building and a scheduled monument.
