Hampton National Historic Site, north of Towson in Baltimore County, Maryland, preserves a remnant of an 18th-century estate owned by the Ridgely family. Its Georgian manor house, completed in 1790, was once the largest private home in America and is regarded as one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the United States. Unlike most plantations, the site retains its original stone slave quarters.
