The Heilig-Geist-Spital in Berlin's Bezirk Mitte was one of the city's earliest hospitals, established in 1250 on the western side of Spandauer Straße. Its surviving Heilig-Geist-Kapelle, a brick Gothic building dating from around 1300, is among the oldest standing buildings in Berlin. The chapel survived the Second World War intact, was thoroughly renovated in 1978/1979 and again in 2005, and now serves as a ballroom for Humboldt University on special occasions.
