The Hempstead County Courthouse stands at the northwest corner of 5th and Washington Streets in Hope, the county seat of Hempstead County, Arkansas. Designed by the Little Rock firm McAninch and Anderson and built in 1939 with Public Works Administration funding, the five-story masonry building is Hope's finest Art Deco work. Its entry is framed by molded concrete panels depicting industries and professions, separated by inverted chevrons that recur in the cornice. The interior is largely unaltered apart from two upper-floor courtrooms rebuilt after a 1979 lightning-induced fire. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
