Henry Gerber House
Chicago, United States
Exterior only
Visible from the street; the inside is private.
The Henry Gerber House stands on North Crilly Court in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood. It is a single-family brick row house built in 1885 in the Queen Anne style and largely intact from that period. In the 1920s it was the home of German-born Henry Gerber, founder of the Society for Human Rights, which was incorporated in Illinois as the first American organization working for gay rights. Gerber held meetings here and published newsletters until Chicago police raided the house in 1925. The building is a Chicago Landmark and was named a National Historic Landmark in 2015.
