The Church of the Holy Mother of God in Vagharshapat, Armenia, was constructed in 1767 during the tenure of Catholicos Simeon I of Yerevan, rising on the foundations of a sixteenth-century wooden church that had previously occupied the site. Built in the Armenian architectural tradition, the church stands at the heart of modern Vagharshapat, approximately two hundred meters north of the fortified walls of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, one of Christianity's most ancient and spiritually significant centers. Today it remains recognized as a cultural heritage monument in Armenia.
