Hotel Alfonso XIII y Jardines, located on Calle San Fernando in Seville next to the University of Seville, is a neo-Mudéjar hotel designed by José Espiau y Muñoz and Francisco Urcola Lazcanotegui and constructed between 1916 and 1928. Built expressly for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, the hotel officially opened on April 28, 1929, with a sumptuous banquet attended by King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg. Today owned by the City of Seville and managed by The Luxury Collection division of Marriott International, it stands as a landmark of early twentieth-century Sevillian hospitality architecture.
