The Hôtel de Ville is the city hall of Paris, on the Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville in the 4th arrondissement, and has housed the municipality's headquarters since 1357. Its south wing was built under Francis I from 1535 to 1551, and its north wing by Henry IV and Louis XIII from 1605 to 1628. The Paris Commune burned it in May 1871, and it was rebuilt to the original design but larger between 1874 and 1882 by Théodore Ballu. It has been a monument historique since 1975.
