Located in Maragogipe, Bahia, the Igreja Matriz de São Bartolomeu is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to Bartholomew the Apostle and one of the most architecturally influential parishes in the region. Built in the early 18th century (begun 1723), the church blends Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical elements in a design that proved remarkably influential: its distinctive plan—featuring lateral corridors, a monumental façade, and twin towers—became a model for churches throughout Bahia in the 1700s, particularly favored by parish churches and Catholic brotherhoods (irmandades). The church belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia and was recognized as a heritage asset by the National Historic and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN) in 1941, reflecting its status as a key example of Portuguese colonial ecclesiastical architecture.
