The Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, located at 11 Griboyedov Street in Irkutsk, Siberia, is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saint Joseph. Designed in the Constructivism style by architect Andrzej Józef Chwalibóg, it was consecrated on September 8, 2000. The cathedral's construction followed decades of suppression—a Catholic parish had existed in Irkutsk since 1820, serving primarily Polish, Lithuanian, and Belarusian congregants, but its wooden church burned in the Great Fire of 1879 and was replaced by a Gothic structure in 1886. After the Soviet Union's collapse and the resumption of religious activities, local Catholics were granted land rather than their former church property, upon which this modern cathedral was built. The building is known for its organ concerts.
