Intiö Water Tower
Oulu, Finland
Exterior only
Visible from the street; the inside is private.
Completed in 1927, the Intiö water tower in Oulu, Finland, is a 39-metre-tall structure designed by architect J. S. Sirén in the Nordic Classicism style. Built as the first dedicated water tower for the Oulu Waterworks, it had the capacity to hold 600 cubic metres of water. The tower remained in service until 1969, when it was superseded by a new facility in the Puolivälinkangas neighbourhood. The structure was later sold to private ownership in 2015 and now stands as an unused landmark in Oulu's Intiö district.
