James F. Clarke House
Fairfield, United States

Exterior only
Visible from the street; the inside is private.
The James F. Clarke House is a two-story brick Prairie School house in Fairfield, Iowa, built in 1916 for Dr. Clarke by Francis Barry Byrne, a former student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Its low-pitched gable roof and open, flowing plan show Byrne moving away from the movement's formal expression while keeping its ideals, with plain, flat trim and De Stijl-like colors. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
