The Jamkaran Mosque, also called the Saheb al-Zaman Mosque, stands in the village of Jamkaran on the outskirts of the holy city of Qom, Iran. Built of brick, mortar and concrete, it draws on Buyid, Afsharid and Qajar architectural traditions. Twelver Shia belief holds that the promised Mahdi once appeared and prayed here, and more than 15 million pilgrims visit each year, many on Wednesday nights.
